Give something to someone and he’ll put much more efforts to avoid losing it than he rationally should. To put it simply, people have a much bigger tendency to prevent loss than to acquire equivalent gain. This concept is a well-known cognitive bias called ‘loss aversion’, first conceptualized by Daniel Kahneman in is best-seller Thinking, Fast and Slow.
